Yep. That's a sure case of "I got mine; screw you," alright, hypocrite. Uh, that means, I guess you don't really have much conviction. Can you say "do as I say, not as I do?" (To answer your fundamentally stupid question I have no kids, asshole. I "borrow" my neices and nephews.) Glad to be of annoying service.

Shoulda viewed the property for more than one night before buying, eh?

Dickhead's an idiot because he doesn't agree with me. (I'm going to couch it in gentler terms and say that it's because he doesn't consider my arguments.
The people disagreeing with you here, Spanky, have shown time and again that they not only consider, but also understand, your arguments. Come up with a better one.

The first amendment guarantees your right to free speech, NOT your right to anonymity. You cannot and should not be "protected" from libel, however. You remember the kind of speech that is NOT protected?
Libel is illegal. period. Sounds to me as if some spineless whiners are trying to use the technology of the internet to get around the libel laws. Unless, of course, what they said was true...

Your "lament" sounds to me more like "I got mine; screw the rest of 'em." Not your intention perhaps, but down in your subconscious, that's what I see.
I hope your belief is firm enough to make you see that since the families on either side of you have three kids apiece, it's your responsibility to abstain altogether.

| naturallyblonde | Posted: 7/25/1998 12:51:00 AM - View this Thread JustBe, wrong on two counts.
1. Although the Constitution WAS a simple document of only several pages (loooong parchment. Typeset, it's 10 or 12 pages, depending on font and spacing) that state ended with the amendments thereto.
2. It WAS intended to be interpreted. Because TJ and his crew knew that times change, they set out to write a simple, short, straightforward document specifically so that its intention could not be mistaken, but that intention could be interpreted for the times. After all, every "man" used to mean "every white adult male." Now it tends to mean "every adult homo sapiens." Interpretation is also why the founding fathers established a supreme court (Article 1, Section 8).

Article [I.]
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
This is article 1 of the Bill of Rights (although it was not numbered at the time of its writing or ratification). Note that JustBe used, and emphasized, improvised punctuation.

Beeze, I love you, but you really disappoint me in this thread. SB's folks didn't "own" slaves. Well, that's just not good enough to exempt her is it. NOOOooo. If they'd had the money, they would've! RIIiight. You can say this with NO degree of certaintly; just with your personal prejudice.
Regardless of all that I see YOUR true colors. One should feel guilty for having held slaves for 200 years. NO ONE lives that long. Stop trying to lay the blame at the feet of the people of this century! If a man goes to jail for murder, is his son also guilty? (Shit, my family wasn't even in this country back then, but I'm still Whitey, aren't I?)
Gotta agree with you about MLK, though. It's a shame he was cut down just as he got going. He could've taken race relations ahead by leaps and bounds, as opposed to the likes of Farakhan, who can only set them back.
I'm convinced that the only way we're going to push through this is for everyone to chill a little (or a lot, depending on one's incendiary tendencies) and give every individual the benefit of the doubt. If you do, you'll meet some "others" with whom you have some common outlooks. I look at it this way. If you really know a single name a race here, you can't possibly say, "They're all your favorite diss here," and be taken seriously by any thinking being.

I always find the lead-in much more satisfying to read about than the act itself. How did the couple come to be together in the scene? You may be onto something here:
Either that or the average person is an idiot and the "government" knows it.
They just pretend we're stupid, because if we weren't they'd have to be responsible to us. It's as if they're playing a game of "if you don't vocalize it, it won't be true." As long as the gummint doesn't acknowledge the intelligence of the average joe, they don't have to deal with it. Why the hell isn't the average joe screaming, "Hey! I can think, dammit! There! Whatcha gonna do now that the cat's out of the bag?"
I keep feeling as though I live in Stepford.

1. Fuck the NRA; Heston is cool. It's like you all said, I stopped contributing because of all the solicitation. When they called me to renew I told them as much. They THEN told me of the 800 number you can call to not receive the extra gimme pleas. If I had it, I'd share it with you. Look for it in their publications.
2. SB, you really SHOULD give up. Better yet, DON'T give up. THINK, instead.
"The military pays income taxes like everyone else, therefore they pay their own pensions if the pensions come out of tax dollars. "
THINK about it. Where does the military's income come from in the first place? Uh, no. They don't pay their own pensions; we do. Duh! (Although I begrudge them not a bit.)
"I believe fully...but not..."
Uh, then your belief in our right to bear arms is not so "fully," after all, is it?
"Interpretation..."
How about a well thought out interpretation, based, as was JustBe's, on the circumstances and writings surrounding the adoption of the constitution, rather than the "interpretation" that just feels good?
JB, BouxBoux, You ROCK!
